Links to Wildland Fire Training Simulators & Research
Wildland Fire Training Simulators are becoming more sophisticated and more widely used throughout the industry.
Mr. Don Studebaker, has an excellent report
discussing a 3D computer based Wildland fire simulation program developed through a parntership with the National Fire academy (U.S.) , Dynamic Animations Systems, Inc. and the U.S. Forest Service. Fire simulators are now able to provide physically realistic fire models based on the main factors that influence how fire burns. Some of these include, weather (wind), fuel and topography. You can also check out the
DAS Case Study for more detailed information.
I was one of the attendees in an emergency simulation training symposium held in Portland, Maine, one month after 9/11. This was an excellent gathering of like minded people who believed and demonstrated, how and where there is a place for classroom simulated wildland fire and other emergency response training. Time and costs are greatly reduced to achieve very similar results as using up a whole day in the field to conduct similar exercises. (Doug Richardson - Wildland Fire Consutant, Webmaster)
This is another excellent site to check out
is the EMBYR system which looks at the 1988 Yellowstone National Park fire storms.
